Internet legalities
The reality of the Internet is that while any action online may or may not have any repercussions at all in the real world, those selfsame actions are actually global in scope. And Internet being a binary creation, for as long as there is the Internet, those actions, whether they are mere e-mails, tweets or chat messages, there will always be a record of it somewhere
In some countries e-mails are accepted as evidence, in some even SMS messages have legal value. These digital records increase in legal value if you consider the fact that all information technology laws of the nations where the message originated, where the e-mail server is located and where the message is received must be applied. So for a single e-mail, or the content has legal implications, three nations at least have legal standing to arrest you for breaking their laws.
The most practical approach is to always be aware that there is the possibility someone is tracking your message. This precaution of being careful with each and every word that you send through the Internet should be second nature — however, failing that, the second-best precaution is to have lawyers at your beck and call should any legal problems arise because of your messages.
At a certain level of business, having Asian, American, and European lawyers is a necessity when doing business on the Internet. It is always better to be safe than sorry for a simple misunderstanding, an action bordering on legality, which is usually the case when your business is on the frontiers, and not close to home.
