Sinee is organizing a trip to Colombo, Sri Lanka for business entrepreneur Prida Tiasuwan and a small group to visit Fellow Darin Gunesekera’s project site from July 18-20, to study Darin’s housing stock exchange model for urban slum dwellers. Members of the Thailand Social Venture Network (SVN), Thai fellow Sombat Boonngamanong and Watanan Petersik will join the trip. Prida Tiasuwan first met Darin Gunesekera through the All Asia induction and Asian Entrepreneur event in Bangalore in January 2007, and has since been interested in exploring his model to test its feasibility in Thailand.

Fellow Security: Sinee and the global fellowship team have been working closely with Thai Fellow Suwimon Piriyathanalai, who has been facing security threats, along with the fishermen community Associate of Traditional Fishing Folks with whom she works in the volatile area of Pattani province in southern Thailand. The Urgent Action Fund for Women and Frontline have been of great help in providing support to Suwimon.

The Thailand team is planning and preparing for the Thailand National New Fellows Induction and All Fellows Meeting, to be held on 25th – 27th July in Pattaya. Veteran fellows are engaged in the planning process. Fellow Kritaya Sreesunpagit and the Social Venture Network group will co-facilitate a session on sustainability.

Thailand Youth Venture team is gearing up for the launch this August. The team is approaching business partners and fundraising, preparing communication and outreach strategies (newsletter campaign, media partners), preparing products and tools for YV and YVA (Youth Venture Associates program), and recruiting intern through AIESEC program.  Jennifer Aspengren from YV Minnesota/Global visited the Thailand program from June 27-July 3.

The team is developing strategies for outreach by questionnaire on “youth and media behavior and attitude towards volunteering”. Also, the YV is helping organize the Ashoka Thailand national induction, in which YV will be featured as a fellowship activity (with fellows as mentors to youth venturers).

Fellow Exchange: Fellow Maria Schejbal from Poland is visiting Thailand on the Fellow Exchange Program to visit Thai fellow Pradit Prasartthong of Makhampom Theater Group from June 25th to July 21st. Maria Schejbal is developing positive joint initiatives with partner institutions to integrate the socially disabled and abled members, and she is hoping to share and exchange ideas with Pradit Prasatthong who engages communities and citizen sector organizations through effective communication and social integration through his Grassroots Micromedia Project (Makhampom).

How to Change the World:  Completed the Thai translation of HTCTW in June, and submitted to publisher. Glossary of Ashoka terms in Thai language is compiled. Book promotion public event is planned for when the Thai HTCTW is launched.

Ashoka Support Network (ASN) in Singapore ASN event will be held on August 23rd in Singapore for selected group of business leaders and professionals based in Singapore and from Asia to promote their engagement in Ashoka  through the ASN membership.
